CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A local Ross County school district is mourning the loss of one of its own.

Nineteen-year-old Kayden McWhorter lost his life over the weekend in a fatal crash on Biers Run Road.

The Ohio Highway Patrol reported that McWhorter was traveling along the rural Ross County road when his vehicle veered off the roadway, striking a sign and multiple trees. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

McWhorter was a 2023 graduate of the Commercial Carpentry Program at the Pickaway-Ross Career and Technology Center in Chillicothe. The school posted a statement on their social media page, saying Kayden was a talented individual who had a passion for the program.

“Kayden’s presence was always marked by his infectious smile,” the district said.

The school added that Kayden was a “big supporter of the program, generously giving his time just a month ago to assist in creating a promotional video to showcase its opportunities.”

Pickaway-Ross CTC announced that grief counselors will be available to staff and students.

An online fund has been established by the community to support the family. Those who wish to donate can do so here.
