DAYTON, Ohio — Today, Democratic gubernatorial nominee candidate Nan Whaley announced that she will support a ballot initiative codifying the protections afforded to women in Roe v. Wade into the state Constitution.
As Governor, Nan claims she will support and help pass a state ballot initiative that will put the protections of Roe v. Wade into the Ohio Constitution.
Governor DeWine previously expressed interest in completely banning abortions with no minimum time frames or exceptions for cases of rape or incest. Following the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, DeWine and Attorney General Dave Yost implemented a six-week abortion ban in the state. Many individuals take issue with this, as it is before many women know they are pregnant. DeWine has said that he wants to “go as far as [he] can” in prohibiting abortions in Ohio.
“Ohio is a pro-choice state. That’s why, today, I’m announcing my support for a ballot initiative to enshrine the protections previously afforded to women in Roe v. Wade into the Ohio Constitution. If Governor DeWine and the extremists in the Legislature are going to push their dangerous, anti-women agenda, it is time for voters to fight back. If they’re going to ban abortion, we’re going to take it to the people and say enough is enough,” said Nan Whaley.
