CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The State Highway Patrol of Ohio has named Trooper Michael K. Ervin, 39, the 2023 Trooper of the Year at the Chillicothe Post.
The recognition is a result of his exceptional service throughout 2023, characterized by his commendable work ethic, leadership skills, active community involvement, and professionalism in interactions with supervisors, peers, and the public.
Trooper Ervin’s peers selected him for this award, acknowledging his enthusiastic approach to work and dedication to maintaining high standards. As a nominee for the District and State Trooper of the Year Awards, the final results will be disclosed at a later date.
In addition to this recent achievement, Trooper Ervin has consistently received the Criminal Patrol Award annually from 2009 to 2019 and in 2022, along with the ACE Award in 2009, 2017, 2022, and 2023.
Having joined the Ohio State Highway Patrol in 2007 as part of the 148th Academy Class, Trooper Ervin has served at various posts, including Portsmouth, Jackson, and Chillicothe. Prior to his service with the patrol, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2002 to 2006. Trooper Ervin is an alumnus of Sciotoville East High School in Scioto County and currently resides in Lucasville, with his daughter.
