COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Paint Valley Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health (ADAMH) Board has announced that the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, led by Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey, has been honored with the CIT Program of the Year award. The award was presented at the Ohio Crisis Intervention Team Conference on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at the Quest Conference Center in Columbus.
The CIT Program of the Year award recognizes a crisis intervention team that has made a significant impact in their community and demonstrates a strong commitment to achieving the goals of Ohio CIT programs. The award is a testament to Sheriff Hafey and his department’s dedication to CIT and the values of collaboration, community, and justice.
Melanie Swisher, Executive Director of the Paint Valley ADAMH Board, praised Sheriff Hafey’s commitment to serving those with behavioral health needs in his community. She highlighted the strides made by the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office in reducing stigma and providing person-centered interventions for those in a behavioral health crisis.
Sheriff Hafey emphasized the critical role of CIT programs in public safety. He noted the increasing encounters with individuals experiencing a mental health crisis and the shift in focus towards facilitating contacts with service providers for those in crisis.
The Paint Valley ADAMH Board, established in 1967, ensures the availability of community-based alcohol, drug addiction, and mental health services for the residents of Fayette, Highland, Pickaway, Pike, and Ross counties.
