PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — The Portsmouth City Health Department will bring its mobile health unit to Tracy Park later this month for a free community health screening event, the department announced.
The event is scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. July 27 at the park, according to a post on the health department’s Facebook page.
Services offered will include first aid, primary care, reproductive health care, sexually transmitted infection testing, rapid HIV and syphilis testing, cholesterol screenings, diabetes screenings, and evaluation and treatment for cold and flu symptoms, the health department said. Latonia Howard, a certified nurse practitioner with the department, is scheduled to staff the event.
The mobile unit is an extension of the health department’s HIV/STD testing division, which provides screening, treatment referrals and sexual health education across 20 counties in southern Ohio, according to the department’s website.
The health department said patients will not be billed beyond what their insurance pays for services rendered. The department also offers a sliding fee scale for uninsured residents, with discounts of up to 40% available with proof of income, according to its website. A certified application counselor on staff can help uninsured clients enroll in a Medicaid managed care plan or an Affordable Care Act marketplace plan.
