MOWRYSTOWN, Ohio — The Highland County Health Department’s mobile clinic will roll into northern Highland County on Wednesday, offering free immunizations, blood pressure checks and other basic health services at two stops as part of the department’s seasonal outreach to the county’s smaller communities.
The Care-A-Van will be parked at Edgington Funeral Home in Mowrystown from 10 a.m. to noon, then move to Belfast United Methodist Church from 1 to 4 p.m., the health department said in a Facebook post.
Staff will offer back-to-school and other child and adult immunizations, blood glucose readings, free blood pressure checks, head lice screening, tuberculosis testing and limited lab work, according to the post.
The Care-A-Van is the health department’s traveling clinic, which runs a rotating schedule to a different pair of communities each Wednesday from April through September, according to the department. Under that rotation, the fourth Wednesday of the month brings the van to Mowrystown and Belfast, while other stops throughout the season include Buford Community Park, Lynchburg Park, the Greenfield HCCAO office, Leesburg, Rainsboro United Methodist Church and Beechwood Pizza & Grille, the department’s schedule shows.
The health department offers reduced-cost adult immunizations through the state’s 317 Program, with a sliding fee scale available for residents who qualify, according to the department. Flu and COVID-19 vaccines are also part of the department’s regular clinic offerings.
The mobile clinic is intended to make preventive care more accessible for residents in parts of the county without a nearby doctor’s office or pharmacy, the health department said.
