HILLSBORO, Ohio — Highland County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 73-year-old Hillsboro man on a disorderly conduct charge and opened an investigation into a report of unsafe gunfire among a string of incidents logged across the county over the July 20-21 weekend, according to the Highland County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to the 6600 block of Park Lane on July 20 after a report of an intoxicated man. Following an investigation, they arrested James A. Freeman, 73, of Hillsboro, and charged him with disorderly conduct, the sheriff’s office said in a post.
The same day, a resident of the 5700 block of Ellis Lane reported unsafe shooting in the area. The sheriff’s office said that case remains under investigation, and no further details were released.
Deputies also responded to a report of vandalism in the 3300 block of U.S. Route 50, and a resident of the 9000 block of state Route 785 reported a fraud complaint, according to the sheriff’s office.
Two telecommunications harassment complaints were filed over the two-day span. A resident of the 1700 block of Orebaugh Road reported harassment on July 20, and a resident of the 100 block of Jan Lynn Lane reported a similar complaint July 21. In the second case, the sheriff’s office said a Blanchester man was issued a warning following an investigation.
Deputies responded to a reported domestic disturbance in the 14000 block of state Route 124 on July 21. After investigating, deputies determined the call stemmed from a verbal dispute, and no charges were filed, the sheriff’s office said.
Three drivers were cited for speeding during the same period: Madison R. Moore, 24, of Bainbridge; Jonathan L. Stapleton, 24, of Peebles; and William A. Kimball, 30, of Clarksburg, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office logged 129 total calls for service over July 20-21, including 85 law enforcement calls, 37 EMS calls and seven fire calls. The Highland County Jail held 45 inmates as of the office’s latest count — 39 men and six women.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
