PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Gov. Mike DeWine has reappointed Scott Williams to the Shawnee State University Board of Trustees, giving the Ohio REALTORS chief executive a new six-year term on the panel that oversees the Portsmouth university’s budget, academic programs and staffing.
Williams’ new term began with his July 10 appointment. He previously served on the board after his initial appointment in 2013, according to the university.
Williams has led Ohio REALTORS as chief executive officer since 2019. He spent the previous 15 years as the statewide association’s vice president of public policy, and his background in government relations also includes leadership roles with the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation and the Ohio Automobile Dealers Association, as well as staff positions in the Ohio Senate and Ohio House of Representatives, the university said.
“We are fortunate to have Scott back on our Board of Trustees,” Shawnee State President Eric Andrew Braun said in a statement. “He is a long-time advocate for southern Ohio, for Shawnee State’s mission, and for the role higher education plays in strengthening our region.”
Williams said in the statement that he looks forward to supporting the university as it expands opportunities for students and strengthens its impact across the region.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public administration, with a concentration in policy and fiscal analysis, from Ohio University. He also serves on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity Ohio, according to the release.
Shawnee State’s Board of Trustees consists of nine voting trustees and two non-voting student trustees, all appointed by the governor. The board oversees the university’s academic programs, budget, general administration and the employment of faculty and staff, the university said.
