NEW MARTINSBURG, Ohio — Perry Township Trustees will hold a special meeting Sept. 30 to explain a fire levy renewal that will appear on the November ballot, the township said in a Facebook post.
The meeting is set for 6 p.m. at the Town Hall in New Martinsburg. Trustees said the levy is officially a “renewal with decrease,” meaning voters will be asked to continue an existing tax rate at a reduced millage rather than approve a new tax.
Leadership from Concord Green Fire Department and Paint Creek Joint EMS & Fire District, the two agencies that respond to calls in the township, have been invited to attend and answer questions, according to the post. Trustees said both departments “continue to serve our township extremely well.”
Trustees said additional details on the levy will be shared at the meeting and posted to the township’s Facebook page in the weeks leading up to the Nov. 3 general election.
Perry Township covers about 28.7 square miles in the southern part of Fayette County and had a population of 1,118 as of the 2020 census, according to U.S. Census data. The township is home to New Martinsburg, an unincorporated community first settled in the early 1800s and originally known as Martinsburg before being renamed for the West Virginia hometown of some of its early settlers.
