CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — A man wanted on felony warrants out of three separate law enforcement agencies was arrested Monday after fleeing into a Circleville motel, where a police K-9 helped officers track him down, according to the Circleville Police Department.
Officers were called to the Castle Inn, at 610 S. Court St., at about 1:30 p.m. Sept. 28 after an anonymous tip identified the location of a man with outstanding felony warrants, the department said in a Facebook post. Officers who responded identified the man as Virgil Keaton, who had active felony warrants through the Circleville Police Department, the Portsmouth Police Department and the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, police said.
When officers gave Keaton verbal commands, he ran back inside the motel, police said. Because of the outstanding felony warrants, officers pursued him into the building.
Police deployed K9 Dexter to help conduct a methodical search of the building, according to the department. Officers, aided by the dog, located Keaton and took him into custody without incident.
The Circleville Police Department said the incident was resolved safely and that officers followed proper procedures throughout the operation. The department thanked the officers involved for their professionalism in locating and apprehending Keaton.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
