PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — The Portsmouth City Health Department is warning residents about phone calls from someone falsely claiming to represent the agency and telling residents they have been selected for a “yearly inspection.”
The department said in a Facebook post that the calls are not coming from the Health Department and that it is not conducting random residential inspections.
Residents who receive one of the calls should not provide any personal, financial or household information and should end the call immediately, the department said. It is asking anyone who gets a call to report it to their local law enforcement agency.
Anyone unsure whether a call is legitimate can contact the Health Department directly at 740-353-5153 to verify, officials said.
The Portsmouth City Health Department, located at 605 Washington St., provides environmental health inspections, immunizations, vital records and other public health services for city residents. Its environmental health division does inspect restaurants, pools and other licensed facilities, but the agency said it is not placing unsolicited calls announcing “yearly” residential inspections.
