CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public hearing Oct. 7 on proposed updates to the state’s wastewater planning map for Pickaway and Fairfield counties, according to a notice shared on the village of South Bloomfield’s Facebook page.
The hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Koch Meeting Room at the Pickaway County Main Library, 1160 N. Court St. in Circleville, according to the notice. Agency staff plan to present the proposal, answer questions and accept public comment.
The proposal would revise Ohio’s Water Quality Management Plan, often called the 208 Plan, which the state is required to maintain under Sections 208 and 303 of the federal Clean Water Act, the notice said. Ohio EPA maintains the plan for the 64 Ohio counties where a regional council of governments has not been designated as the lead planning agency.
For Pickaway and Fairfield counties specifically, the draft update would revise two existing facility planning areas, create eight new facility planning areas, and update the wastewater management agency designations and treatment prescriptions that guide how those areas handle sewage collection and treatment, according to the notice. The changes would be reflected in the plan’s appendices covering management agencies and facility planning area maps.
Residents can comment at the Oct. 7 hearing, through Ohio EPA’s online public comment form, or by mail to Ohio EPA-DSW, P.O. Box 1049, Columbus, OH 43216-1049, the notice said. Written comments are due by 5 p.m. Oct. 14, and the agency said all submissions will be given equal consideration regardless of format.
Questions about the proposal can be directed to Ohio EPA contact Mary McCarron at 614-644-2160 or [email protected], according to the notice. The agency said it will provide reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act for anyone who needs them to take part in the hearing.
