CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Chillicothe plans to replace the playground at Yoctangee Park with new equipment chosen by children from the community, the latest piece of the city’s sweeping overhaul of the park, according to the City of Chillicothe.
Crews plan to remove the current playground pod and install the new equipment at the same time in mid-November, the city said, a move intended to limit how long the play area is closed to the public during construction.

Children living in the area helped select the new equipment, the city said in a social media post announcing the project, though it did not detail how that selection process was carried out.
The playground update is the latest piece of a roughly $35 million renovation of Yoctangee Park funded through Ohio’s Appalachian Community Grant Program, which draws on federal American Rescue Plan Act dollars distributed through the Governor’s Office of Appalachia and the Ohio Department of Development. That project has already delivered a repaved Enderlin Circle, a new multiuse pavilion, renovations to the historic Chillicothe Armory, a rebuilt amphitheater, six new pickleball courts, a resurfaced tennis complex and a new roundabout at Mill Street and Yoctangee Parkway.

The playground area will be under construction during the mid-November work, the city said, and visitors should expect the site to be inaccessible while the pod is swapped out.
