WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — Fayette County commissioners approved a $73,638.58 increase to a landfill expansion contract at their Sept. 28 meeting, raising the project’s total cost to $323,609.58 after site conditions required changes to the scope of work.

The change order to King Environmental Group’s contract for Phase B of the Fayette County Construction and Demolition Debris Landfill Expansion adjusted the amount of excavation and grading needed to match actual site conditions, according to county commission meeting minutes. The amendment also removed a filter fabric and sand bag item, leachate pipe extensions and an access road extension from the project, while adding a waste relocation component that was not part of the original scope.

Commissioners awarded the original $249,971 contract to King Environmental Group in August for the landfill expansion project.

The change order also extends the contract’s completion deadline by 17 calendar days, pushing the new target completion date to Dec. 2. Commissioners Jim Garland, Tony Anderson and Donald Fleak approved the amendment by unanimous roll call vote.

In a separate action at the same meeting, commissioners authorized Garland to apply for state funding through the Ohio Public Works Commission’s State Capital Improvement and Local Transportation Improvement programs to help pay for the Bogus Road Bridge 2.30 replacement project on County Road 138, along with related county paving work. The resolution also authorizes Garland to execute any agreements necessary to secure the funding if the application is approved.
