STAUNTON, Ohio — The Concord-Green Fire Department will begin selling tickets Monday evening for a Thanksgiving raffle, the latest in a string of fundraisers the volunteer department has held this fall as it works to replace its aging station.
Tickets go on sale from 5 to 7 p.m. at the department’s station in Staunton, an unincorporated community in Fayette County. Tickets cost $5 each or 10 for $40, and can also be purchased online through Venmo at @cgfd300, according to a flyer the department posted to Facebook.
The winner will receive a Thanksgiving turkey with all the trimmings, two sugar cream pies provided by Nancy Ivers, two Concord Green T-shirts and two smoke detectors. The department noted that the food will not be cooked — winners will receive everything needed to prepare their own Thanksgiving meal. The drawing is set for Nov. 16.
All proceeds benefit the Concord-Green Fire Department, which has leaned on a series of community fundraisers this fall. The department sold bracelets and T-shirts in September to help fund a new station, held an open house with vendors and a rescue demonstration Oct. 3, and has a pancake and sausage dinner scheduled for Nov. 3. The department also recently secured nearly $131,000 in grants and gifts, including a $50,000 state Small County Volunteer Fire Department grant that helped pay for new breathing apparatus units and portable radios.
Concord-Green Fire Department has operated out of its current station, at the intersection of U.S. Route 62 and Worthington Road, since it was founded in 1948. The department serves Concord and Green townships and has said the facility is too small for its current equipment and roster of volunteer firefighters.
