WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — The Washington C.H. Fire/Rescue Department and the Fayette County EMS District will open their doors to families Saturday, Oct. 17, for a joint Halloween open house combining trick-or-treating with hands-on fire safety lessons.
The free event runs from 1 to 3 p.m. at two stops: Washington C.H. Fire/Rescue, 225 E. Market St., and the Fayette County EMS District, 115 E. Temple St., the department said in a Facebook post. Families can visit either or both locations.
Children and adults are encouraged to wear costumes, which organizers asked be kept family-friendly, according to the post. Planned activities include trick-or-treat stations, fire truck tours, fire safety demonstrations, a chance to meet local firefighters and paramedics, emergency equipment displays, door prizes and giveaways, and other family activities and games.
The open house falls during the second week after National Fire Prevention Week, the fire-safety education campaign the National Fire Protection Association has sponsored nationwide every October since 1922, and organizers framed the event as a way to pair the holiday with practical safety information for families.
Washington Court House is the county seat of Fayette County and sits along Paint Creek in east-central Ohio. The city’s fire department can be reached for more information about the open house at 740-636-2362.
