WAVERLY, Ohio — The Waverly Lions Club will hold its annual Halloween parade through downtown Waverly on Saturday, Oct. 31, with lineup beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the parade stepping off at 7:30 p.m., the Waverly Fire Department said in a Facebook post sharing the club’s news release.

Participants are asked to gather in the parking lot of the Waverly High School Athletic Facility at Clough and Second streets, according to the release. Entries, including political ones, are free and require no registration.

The parade will proceed down Second Street to the announcer’s stand at Second and Market streets, then return to the parking lot by way of Third Street, the release said.

The Lions Club is also partnering with Grace United Methodist Church’s annual Chiliween event to hold a children’s costume contest at the church’s Family Life Center, 104 S. High St. Costume participants are asked to arrive by 6:45 p.m., with judging beginning at 7:15 p.m. and cash prizes awarded in the categories of unusual, pretty, ugly and funny, organizers said. Contestants will then join the parade at Second and High streets and proceed to the announcer’s stand, where winners will be announced.

The Family Life Center will also host Chiliween beginning at 6 p.m., serving free chili, crackers and beverages as part of an annual no-cost trick-or-treat event open to the public.

The Waverly Lions Club is a chapter of Lions Clubs International, a service organization founded in Chicago in 1917 that has grown into one of the world’s largest volunteer networks, with clubs in more than 200 countries and geographic areas.
