JACKSON COUNTY, Ohio — Wellston is a town that has been plagued by water problems lately. Over the last few weeks, parts of Wellston have been under multiple boil advisories.
The Guardian reached out to the mayor of the small town to find out exactly what is going on with the water in Wellston.
Mayor Charlie Hudson told the Guardian that many of the main water lines in the city are well over 100-years-old, and they are in desperate need of replacement. When asked what the city’s plans are to fix these issues he replied, “We are replacing main lines as we can secure funding.”
When asked about any possibility of water contamination, city officials said no harmful contaminants had been found in the water. The Guardian obtained EPA records that state the town has been compliant with no violations.
Until necessary funding reaches the city, the water problems will unfortunately persist, officials say.
The Guardian will continue to follow the town’s progress in water main replacements, and will bring you the most up-to-date information.
