PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — A deputy has been arrested for allegations he had sex with an inmate.
Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman said that he received information regarding possible sexual misconduct involving one of his own deputies, deputy James Layne IV, 46, Franklin Furnace. Layne was assigned to the jail as a correctional officer.
“During the initial steps of the investigation, detectives were able to determine that sexual misconduct was taking place between the correctional officer and a former female inmate,” said Thoroughman. Layne was immediately placed on administrative leave, the Sheriff said.
On Friday, a Scioto County Grand Jury indicted Layne sexual battery and dereliction of duty.
He was arrested on the indictment and is being held with no bond. He will be arraigned next week in the Scioto County Common Pleas Court.
