CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The details surrounding the sudden death of a former Chillicothe elected official have been released by the Sheriff.

Bruce Arnold, 68, was found dead Saturday night in Chillicothe after a woman called 9-1-1 to say he was not breathing. When deputies arrived they found Arnold in a bed and unresponsive.

The woman told deputies that Arnold was her boyfriend and that the two were engaged in sexual intercourse when he rolled over, made sounds, and stopped breathing. Arnold had reportedly taken pills, drank alcohol, and took cocaine, the woman told the Sheriff’s office, reports said. Deputies administered NARCAN and CPR, but efforts to revive Arnold were not successful. He was transported to the hospital and pronounced deceased at Adena Regional Medical Center.

Arnold was a longtime business owner in downtown Chillicothe and served two terms on city council as chairman. He lost re-election in November.

Arnold was in the early stages of a state criminal investigation by the Ohio Ethics Commission after reports surfaced that his business profited from city contracts while he held elective office.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
