A couple from Scioto County have been found guilty of murder.
Daniel and Jessica Groves each were convicted Friday afternoon of murdering their infant-son, Dylan.
The 5-day trial was emotional at times, with some jurors crying. The verdict was handed down on the baby’s first birthday.
Daniel Groves was given 47-years-to-life for his charges. That means he will be 89-years-old before he is released, if granted parole.
Jessica Groves was sentenced to life without parole plus 32-years for her charges.
The husband and wife were charged with aggravated murder and other charges in the death of their son, Dylan, who was born last January, the Associated Press said. Jessica Groves was convicted as charged. Her husband was convicted with a lesser charge of only murder.
Dylan’s body was found in June in a well near their home.
The Groves were high school sweethearts. They had been together 20 years. They had a first son, who was 15-years-old. Then, they had Dylan last year.
Police say Dylan was removed from his parents’ home when he was born with drugs in his system but was later returned to his father.
The AP reports that the state determined that Scioto County Children Services mishandled the boy’s case and didn’t follow required procedures. The agency was ordered to submit a corrective action plan.
