CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A disturbing scene of animal cruelty occurred at a Kroger parking lot on Western Ave, where witnesses saw a dark-colored Pitbull mix being dragged behind a tan/silver Chevy S10 truck.
According to reports, a witness traveling behind a truck noticed something being dragged behind it. Upon closer inspection, the witness realized it was a dog. The truck then parked in a Kroger parking lot and a bystander attempted to help the injured dog. A man from the truck then picked up the dog and threw it into the passenger’s seat before leaving the scene.
Upon investigating, officers said they traced the truck back to the home of a local resident who stated their brother, Kevin Loel, had been driving the truck.
Loel, police said, was eventually located at a friend’s place on Western Avenue, where he admitted to driving the vehicle but claimed he had no idea the dog was attached to it.
The injured dog was rescued and transported to the vet for emergency treatment. The Dog Warden took charge of the case and issued Kevin a summons to appear in court on March 10, 2023, for animal cruelty charges.
The Ross County Human Society released a statement on the case saying, “The Ross County Humane Society was contacted late last night by the Ross Count Dog Warden to assist with a dog who had been dragged behind a vehicle on Western Ave. The dog, an adult female pit bull, was transported to OSU Veterinary Hospital by shelter staff. Due to the extent and type of injuries sustained, the dog was humanely euthanized at OSU Veterinary Hospital early this morning.”
This comes just 18 months after another dog was dragged by a vehicle in Ross County.
