FAYETTE COUNTY, Ohio — Theresa Sayre, the mother of Naomi Sayre, who was found deceased in a closet on March 22, 2023, has been charged with obstructing justice. Detectives with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office have charged Sayre with making false statements during the investigation into her daughter’s disappearance.
Naomi Sayre was reported missing by her mother on March 5, 2023, after allegedly taking medication and leaving the house without her phone. A community search was then organized on March 12th, but it was unsuccessful.
On March 22, 2023, deputies received a report of a person found dead at the same residence where Naomi was reported missing. Deputies found Naomi’s body in a closet, and it is still unclear how long she had been dead.
Following the discovery of Naomi’s body, detectives obtained a search warrant for the Sayre’s residence and conducted interviews with individuals present during the discovery of Naomi’s body. Fayette County Coroner Dr. Lenora Fitton pronounced Naomi Sayre dead on the scene, and her body was transported to the Montgomery County Medical Coroner’s Office for a post-mortem examination.
