ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A man is currently behind bars after leading law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase across two counties, reportedly fueled by cocaine.
The pursuit began on Thursday, April 27, when deputies observed a grey Chevrolet Malibu driving erratically on Egypt Pike, straddling the double yellow lines. Authorities, reports state, attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped up, initiating the chase.
Throughout the pursuit, the Malibu maintained, deputies said, dangerous speeds and erratic driving patterns, including switching off the headlights. The chase eventually ended when the vehicle crashed into a field in Fayette County after running straight through an intersection.
Deputies identified the driver as Ivan Twitty, who was apprehended at Taser point after attempting to flee on foot. Twitty, who sustained minor injuries, was handcuffed. A female passenger, who deputies on the scene said, appeared uninjured but complained of pain in her arms and legs, eventually exited the vehicle once EMS arrived on the scene.
Deputies said neither Twitty nor the female passenger were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Twitty was found without a valid driver’s license and had felony warrants in both Franklin and Delaware counties.
Twitty, who refused to answer further questions, stated “he was going to prison.” After being checked by EMS, he was transported to a Fayette County hospital before being taken to jail. In addition to the warrants, Twitty faces felony charges of fleeing and obstructing official business. The female passenger sought charges against Twitty for allegedly forcing her to remain in the car.
The Malibu was towed and Twitty was eventually transported to the Ross County Jail.
