MADISON COUNTY, Nebraska — A Nebraska man accused of sexually abusing a young child appeared in court for the first time this week, where he waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

According to reports, 34-year-old Cody Johnson was wanted in Madison County, Nebraska, on charges related to the ongoing sexual abuse of a child. The Norfolk Daily News stated that the abuse had allegedly taken place over an 8-year period. The victim, who is now a teenager, disclosed to her mother that Johnson had been sexually abusing her since she was 6 years old.

Johnson was charged in early May but subsequently fled the state. He was apprehended by the United States Marshal Service in Ross County on May 18 and then extradited back to Nebraska. He is currently in custody and being held on a $500,000 bond.

A court appearance later this month has been scheduled for Johnson.

Authorities have not disclosed any connection he may have had with the Ross County area.
