SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio — On Saturday, February 17, a routine deputy standby call turned into a violent altercation. A woman’s request for assistance during a retrieval mission ended in her father being shot.
Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman released a statement saying, on Saturday, around 1:45 p.m. A concerned citizen placed a call, requesting deputy standby assistance while she retrieved personal belongings from her residence at 14191 Lick Run Lyra Rd. in South Webster.
The caller, apprehensive due to a prior disturbance involving her and her ex-boyfriend in Jackson County the previous night, sought protection during her visit.
There sheriff’s office said, at 1:59 p.m., another call came through the 911 communication center, this time reporting that the caller’s ex-boyfriend had allegedly shot her father.
Deputies responded to the scene and managed to detain the suspec.
The suspect, identified as John Moore, 36, residing at the same address, now faces severe charges.
Sheriff Thoroughman said Moore has been formally charged with Attempted Murder, and Felonious Assault.
Currently, Moore remains in custody without bond for the Attempted Murder charge, while a $20,000 bond has been set for the Felonious Assault charge.
Moore’s court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, February 20, at Portsmouth Municipal Court.
The victim, identified as Joeseph Morris, 46, from Fairborn, Ohio, was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center before being airlifted to Grant Trauma Center in Columbus.
