CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Police arrested a local man yesterday after witnesses say he stole a firearm from a car parked at a Speedway gas station. The incident occurred on Sunday, February 19th, between 1:00am and 1:30am.
According to the police report, an employee at the Speedway, reported her pink SCCY CPX-2 handgun stolen from her car while another employee.
Another individual told officers that the suspect, later identified as Christian Butterbaugh, loitering around the victims car and noticed the gun missing.
The witness said they confronted Butterbaugh, who then fled the scene on foot.
Officers located Butterbaugh walking nearby and detained him.
The suspect eventually led officers to the stolen gun,which he had thrown over a fence.
Butterbaugh allegedly admitted to taking the gun due to reportedly needing money for his son.
He remains in custody at the Ross County Jail.
