LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio — The search for a missing Lawrence County teen has ended in tragedy.
On Monday, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office announced the body of 18-year-old Shannon “Chase” Sizemore was found just after 11:00 a.m. in a pond.
Sizemore was reported missing after deputies were notified of an underage party near a recreational area off of Route 650 in Hanging Rock on Saturday night. Officials said that when deputies arrived at the location, several individuals fled into a nearby wooded area.
When Sizemore was not located, an all-out search was initiated around 2 a.m. on Sunday.
Attendees at the party said Sizemore may have gone into the water as they recounted hearing splashing, according to a press release from the sheriff.
K9s, boats, drones, and ATVs were utilized. The search was initially called off late Sunday night but resumed early Monday morning. It was then divers from the Cabell County Disaster Response Team found the body of Sizemore. Authorities said his body was located 11 feet down and 53 feet from the shoreline in 40-degree water temperatures.
Sheriff Jeff Lawless said that foul play is not suspected in the case.
