CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – The Ross County Sheriff’s Office is investigating allegations that funds were misappropriated from the Chillicothe Paints Booster Club. The investigation began after the club’s new president discovered financial discrepancies.
According to a law enforcement report, the new club president took office in January 2024 and initiated an audit after noticing irregularities in the accounts. The club primarily raises funds through 50/50 raffle drawings at home games, with proceeds intended to support Chillicothe Paints players with meals and travel expenses. Club policies require spending decisions to be approved by the president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary.
The club alleges that funds were used to purchase nearly $400 worth of gifts and items from Dollar Tree and Sam’s Club, allegedly for their 2023 Christmas party. The current president reports that these food items were not served at the party and suspects they may have been for personal use.
The Ross County Sheriff’s Office confirms the investigation is ongoing. Names of those involved have not been released as no charges have been filed. The Guardian reached out to the former booster club president for comment, but the request has not been answered.
