PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — A Chillicothe man was killed early Sunday morning in a traffic accident on US Route 23. According to Pickaway County Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey, the crash occurred on August 4, 2024, at 5:16 a.m., near the intersection of Island Road Crossing.

Deputies who arrived at the scene found that Kelsea Gussler, also from Chillicothe, was driving a 1998 Chevrolet truck with a trailer northbound on Route 23 when the truck slowed to make a left turn. The trailer was still partially in the roadway when Barry Arthur, another Chillicothe resident driving a 2022 Nissan, rear-ended it.

Barry Arthur exited his vehicle and was subsequently struck by a 2011 Ford Escape driven by Timothy Gilliam of Newark, Ohio. Arthur, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene by Pickaway Township EMS at 5:29 a.m.

Gussler was taken to Ohio Health Berger Hospital by City of Circleville EMS, while Michael Litchfield, a passenger in Gussler’s truck, was transported to Mt. Carmel Grove City by Harrison Township EMS. Gilliam received treatment at the scene from City of Circleville EMS and was later released.
