SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio Auditor’s Office has issued a recovery finding of $1,079 against the fiscal officer of the South Webster-Bloom Township Joint Fire District in Scioto County. The penalties stem from late tax payments to the Internal Revenue Service, which resulted in accrued interest and penalties over several years.
The audit, covering financial records from January 1, 2022, through December 31, 2023, held fiscal officer Bonnie Hardin and her bonding company jointly responsible for the amount. According to the report, the delayed tax remittances occurred between 2017 and 2020, leading to the financial penalties.
Auditors described the repeated late payments as “gross negligence” and deemed the use of public funds to cover these penalties improper.
The full audit report is available on the Ohio Auditor’s website.
