An active search was underway for two missing kayakers in Chillicothe on Monday morning.
The search started at around 8 p.m. on Sunday evening, and extended into Chillicothe near the boat ramp at the Yocktangee Park Annex on Forrest Rice Drive.
It started after two kayakers launched in Pickaway County and did not return. It was believed they had floated down the river.
Chillicothe Police had brought in ATVs to search along the banks of the Scioto River.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources was scouring the area with the county Sheriff’s office, as well. A helicopter had been called in to assist in the search, according to ODNR officers.
The Ross County Emergency Management Agency, the Ohio Highway Patrol, and countywide search and rescue were also at the scene.
The two kayakers were found at around 3:45 a.m. and were okay. They were treated for hypothermia.
No other details were released.
