A manhunt is underway in downtown Chillicothe after deputies say a man tried to smuggle drugs into the county jail.
It happened shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. According to deputies, the man was caught trying to sneak the drugs inside the secure building and ran away from the justice complex when he was caught attempting to smuggle the drugs inside.
Investigators were seen picking up evidence on the sidewalk outside the building and placing it into evidence envelopes. A Chillicothe Police K-9 was brought to the scene and searched the parking lot and perimeter of the building.
Deputies and police converged on the downtown area and are continuing to look for the suspect, whose name has not been released.
The Ross County Jail is under the direction of the county Sheriff and houses misdemeanor and felony offenders. The most notorious inmate currently housed in the complex is George Wagner, IV, accused of killing 8 members of the Rhoden family in Pike County in 2016.
