A popular weatherman has been charged with his second DUI in just a few years.

ABC 22/FOX 45 and Dayton 24-7 NOW Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson is behind bars in Montgomery County at this hour. Simpson was booked at around 1 a.m. Thursday morning on charges of drunken driving by the Miamisburg Police Department.

Thursday morning, he plead not guilty to drunken driving and having a beer in his car in the Montgomery County Municipal Court. The judge sent Simpson back to jail until a September 18 court date. He can bond out for $7,500, but so far, he has not done so.

If convicted of this offense, Simpson will spend six months behind bars as a result of a previous charge he caught a few years ago.

In 2014, Simpson, then-the Chief Meteorologist at Dayton’s channel 7, WHIO-T.V., was charged in Greene County for driving while drunk. Public records say in that case, Simpson drove his car off the road and hit a tree. According to toxicology results listed in the crash report, Simpson’s blood-alcohol level was .228.

In the 2014 case, Simpson was sentenced to 180 days in jail, with the judge suspending all but three days on the condition Simpson has no similar violation in the next five years and that he do a term of probation of two years. The judge gave Simpson credit for three days in jail because Simpson said he voluntarily went to a 30-day outpatient treatment facility and would continue follow-up treatment.

Simpson’s five year plea agreement does not expire until November 2019, meaning that if convicted of the new charge the popular meteorologist will face six months in jail.

Simpson resigned from WHIO after his 2014 conviction and surfaced across the street at WKEF a short time later.

A call seeking comment from the Sinclair station where Simpson works was not immediately returned.
