The Guardian has obtained public records that surround a now former-embattled New Holland councilmember and her now-former candidacy for mayor.
Amy Hupp has withdrawn her candidacy for mayor and has resigned her seat on village council, according to public record obtained on Monday.
You may recall, the Guardian told you last week that councilwoman Amy Hupp was the sole-candidate for mayor in the small village of 809 and that the Guardian had uncovered her criminal history. The Guardian told you that Hupp had been convicted of two theft charges, as well as two misdemeanor charges.
This publication told you that a complaint had been filed with the Board of Elections asking them to investigate if Hupp could be on the ballot. We are now learning what that complaint, filed by an anonymous voter, says.
“I am writing this letter in regard to information that has been brought to my attention about a candidate for New Holland Mayor, that you may want to investigate,” reads the complaint. “Amy Hupp, who also goes by Amy Weaver has a criminal record that I believe prevents her from holding public office.”
The complaint goes on to list the charges she was convicted of, and says, “In addition, there are much more things in her background you may want to investigate to see if she can be on the ballot or not.”
The Guardian has obtained a copy of Hupp’s resignation letter from council, which is the same letter that says she is withdrawing from the November election as a mayoral candidate.
“Due to unfortunate circumstances and criminal attacks on my family, my business, and myself, I must 1. Humbly resign as a member of council with the Village of New Holland effectively immediately. 2. Relinquish my candidacy for mayor of the Village of New Holland effective immediately,” the letter states.
It goes on to read that Hupp is also resigning from the village’s Zoning Board. The letter was filed with the local Board of Elections on Friday.
