Reports of one person being shot in Caesar’s Creek State Park in Clinton County has turned out to be a training exercise. The state park also sits in Greene and Warren counties.
The call came in at 11:50 a.m. on Sunday and sent local news media and people in the area in a frenzy. The reports said that one victim had been found in the woods on a walking trail near the beach. Dispatchers said a woman called 9-1-1 and said her father had been shot, and so was someone else. It wasn’t until nearly an hour later at 1 p.m. firefighters announced on the radio “to all outside agencies” that it was a training exercise.
In the training exercise, deputies and ODNR had requested air support from the Highway Patrol.
Editor’s note: a previous version of this article had said two people were shot until firefighters said it was a training exercise.
