Deputies and state agents are investigating an active scene in Highland County after a homeowner was said to have shot a possible burglar Monday.
A man called 9-1-1 from the 5000 block of state Route 124 and said that someone was trying to get into his house and was yelling threats.
The man said that the person walked around to another side of the house and that is when the two interacted in person; the man shooting and killing the described-aggressor.
Highland County sheriff’s deputies and detectives, the Highland County Coroner and the Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation (BCI) were called to the scene, along with the life squad.
A 29-year-old male was pronounced dead from a single gunshot wound. No names are being released at this time.
The matter is still under investigation.
