A local Facebook posting that has more than 1,300 shares describing a possible kidnapping has turned out to be a misunderstanding.
Chillicothe resident Heather Palmer posted on social media Saturday that while she was visiting a local Kroger, she heard what sounded like a woman screaming for help from a nearby car.
“While I was loading my groceries into my car the car parked next to mine had a man who looked to be in his early 60’s getting into his car [sic],” Palmer posted. “I started hearing a woman screaming for help and a pounding sound.
She said the car started to drive off and she heard someone in the trunk.
“I started yelling that there was someone in his trunk. People started looking but the old guy took off. I hopped in my car and tried to catch him to get a license plate but there was so much traffic he got away.”
Palmer called Chillicothe Police, who pulled the security camera footage from the area. They ran the license plate and found the car and the driver.
As it turns out, the man had two children in the backseat who were screaming and fighting, which caused the confusion.
Palmer posted a follow up on Facebook.
“The police just contacted me and they found the guy. Apparently he had his two kids with him and they were fighting in the backseat. Hallelujah!”
The case was closed.
