A Circleville man is expected to be okay after police say he was beaten in his wheelchair.

Police report that a 64-year-old man, who is wheelchair-bound was in the area of East Main Street at around 7:30 Thursday night.

According to the man, someone walked up to him and started attacking him. While trying to fend the attacker off, the man was screaming for help. Someone in the area apparently heard the man shouting and stopped. That’s when the attacker took off running. The other person called police.

Police say they do not know who the assailant was, but say the man and the caller told them he ran away down Main Street while wearing baggy tan pants and a faded Carhartt shirt.

The man in the wheelchair was taken to the hospital by EMS to be checked out, where he is expected to be okay.

Police did not immediately report a motive for the attack or say if the man stole anything. They are continuing to investigate.
