The man who is accused of causing a pursuit that led to two police officers getting hurt in a crash is a convicted felon.
Roger Allen Wood, Jr., 42, was booked into the Fayette County jail just before midnight Wednesday after being released from Berger Hospital. Earlier on Wednesday evening, Allen is accused of leading Washington Court House Police officers on a high-speed chase into Pickaway County.
Wood allegedly drove a car through a field near Williamsport, before crashing and being arrested. During the pursuit, the two Washington Court House Police officers were injured, said Fayette County Sheriff Vernon P. Stanforth.
One of the officers wrecked their patrol car into a ditch during the chase, which led to him being hurt, the Sheriff said; he was flown by medical helicopter to Grant Medical Center. A second officer was taken to Berger Hospital for injuries, as well, from the crash. Both officers are expected to live, Stanforth said. The Sheriff said he was not at liberty to release the officers’ names since his office is not the lead investigating agency.
The details of what started the chase have not been released, though, it is expected that Washington Court House Police will release that information Thursday afternoon.
Wood was also taken to Berger Hospital for injuries from the crash. He was released just after 10 p.m. and was transported to Fayette County Jail by detectives. In his mugshot, he was sporting gauze on his neck.
Wood is a convicted felon out on parole after serving four years for drug trafficking. His new charges from Wednesday night include failing to stop for a police officer, driving without a license, and a parole violation.
