Deputies in Athens shot and killed a man late Wednesday night after an intense standoff.
The Sheriff there reports that a woman called for help after a domestic situation with her husband, 41-year-old Chad Nicolia. Deputies arrived and went inside a house with the woman to help her gather her things.
While inside the home, Nicolia pointed a gun at them, deputies said. They were able to grab the woman and everyone escaped while the man stayed inside.
An intense hours-long standoff ensued outside of the home on Jetstar Drive in Hockingport.
The Sheriff said that while deputies waited outside for a SWAT team, Nicolia was shooting at them from inside.
Deputies had no choice but to shoot back, killing the man, the Sheriff said.
No other information has been released.
