Two suspected burglars were shot by a homeowner overnight in Fayette County.
It happened at around 2:30 a.m. early-Wednesday morning at 6921 Lewis Road near Bloomingburg, the county Sheriff said.
Sheriff Vernon P. Stanforth told the Guardian that the property has been plagued by thieves in recent weeks because of the personal belongings scattered around the property. Such items include old farm machinery, car parts, and more.

On Wednesday morning the homeowner heard a noise and went outside to investigate. That’s when he saw two people were trespassing and attempting to break inside his home and business, which is located on the grounds.
Stanforth said the property owner fired multiple shots, with one bullet hitting the first burglar in the back, while another bullet struck the other suspect in the arm.
The man held them at gunpoint until deputies arrived.
Both burglars were taken to the hospital with minor gunshot wounds, the Sheriff said. Their names have not been released. The homeowner’s name also has not been released.
The two burglars are likely to face charges once they are discharged from the hospital, Stanforth said. The homeowner will not be arrested, but the case will be routinely presented to the county prosecutor.
Lewis Road was closed for several hours while detectives processed the scene.
