State agents are investigating a local Sheriff campaign and one of its key supporters.
The Guardian has been able to confirm that the state’s BCI was requested by Fayette County Prosecutor Jess Weade to look into the Sines for Sheriff campaign. In the request, Weade asked agents to investigate an allegation that was made to the Fayette County Board of Elections alleging a local man was paying people to vote for Fayette County Sheriff candidate Leonard Sines.
Local citizen Donald Branham was interviewed by BCI agents after he was accused of paying $30 for voters to cast their vote for Sines. Sines is challenging long-time incumbent Sheriff Vernon P. Stanforth in the November 3 election.
“It was an allegation that was referred to BCI for investigation. At this point, that’s all I can say,” Weade said on Tuesday.
Branham, most known for being the father of young Mackenzie Branham who was murdered in Jeffersonville over a decade ago, is an outspoken critic of Stanforth and vocal supporter of Sines.
The younger-Branham’s homicide case remains unsolved.
