A semi traveling along route 35 on Monday caused a hazmat situation.
It happened in the area of the route 50 on-ramp to route 35 westbound at around 1 p.m. in Ross County.
The semi was driving along the highway when the fuel tank broke from the bracket that holds it in place. The driver told troopers that he heard a scrapping and noticed his fuel levels started to rapidly drop. The driver said he pulled over and found the tank hanging on the ground, spilling fuel.
Ross County EMA responded and declared the situation “serious,” according to the county EMA director.
Fire crews from Liberty Township responded and cleaned up the spill, as well as ODOT. The on-ramp was closed while the cleanup was underway.
