An inmate is dead in Fayette County.
The death occurred over the weekend at the county lockup on Market Street.
Fayette County Sheriff Vernon Stanforth said that the county coroner is investigating the cause of death and stopped shy of saying how the inmate was found. Community rumors that the inmate hung themself were not immediately confirmed by the Sheriff.
“The Fayette County Coroner, Dr. Lenora Fitton, is conducting the investigation. More information will be forthcoming,” the Sheriff said.
A message was left with Fitton seeking comment.
The inmate’s name was not released.
