Stephen Douglas Heckler
Stephen Douglas Heckler, 68, of Galena, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 25, 1952, in Columbus, the son of the late George Clarence and Marjorie Louise (Pritchard) Heckler.
Doug is survived by his beloved daughters, Kara Barnhart, Stephanie (Jason) Adams, Samantha (Eric) Coey, and Jennifer Heckler; fiancé, Gale Koehler; brother, George “Skip” (Mary) Heckler; grandchildren, Leighton, John, Joshua, and Lauren; and numerous other special family members and friends whom he cherished.
In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his brother, Bradley Heckler.
Doug was a 1971 graduate of Brookhaven High School and spent his career working in Information Technology as a programmer analyst. Doug was a devoted family man and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his loved ones. He was dedicated to attending all of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and activities over the years and spent most of last summer driving his grandchildren around the yard in his golf cart. Doug enjoyed various pastimes including golfing, racing, riding his motorcycle, playing games with his family, being an avid audio enthusiast, and an avid fan of Laurel and Hardy. Doug also cherished the times he spent traveling and exploring with his true love, Gale. He was a longtime member of the April Fools Investments LLC, an investment group, and the Perfect Day Tent of Columbus (Oasis 42), a Laurel and Hardy fan club.
Private funeral services will be held on Monday, March 8 at the HILL FUNERAL HOME, Kingston with Eric Coey officiating. Burial will follow in Green Summit Cemetery, Adelphi. Condolences and floral gifts can be made on Doug’s online guest registry at www.hillfhkingston.com.
