CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A motorcycle crash caused two separate accidents on Saturday night in Chillicothe, sending three people to the hospital.
The first accident was the motorcyclist, who crashed on Western Avenue near Stanhope Drive, on a hill known to locals as “Cabbage Hill.” The call came in at around 9:30 p.m.
The motorcycle driver, Chase Rutherford, of Chillicothe, was thrown from his bike and landed in the middle of the roadway. EMS reported that they believed he suffered a broken leg and injury to his head. Rutherford was taken to the hospital; he did not posses a legal motorcycle license or wearing a helmet, troopers said. Rutherford was flown to Columbus in serious condition. No other vehicles were involved in the first crash.
While law enforcement and medics worked Rutherford’s crash, a second accident occurred in the traffic jam at the bottom of the hill.
Troopers reported two vehicles collided head-on in front of Haller Funeral Home on Western Avenue. Trent Hendershot, 20, and Lewis Sams, III, 33, both of Chillicothe were taken to the hospital.
