CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — An inmate in a state prison in Ross County was killed last week.

The Highway Patrol said they are investigating the death of inmate Michael Keaton at Chillicothe Correctional Institute (CCI). Keaton, 43, was serving a 3.5 year sentence for drug charges and escape; he was from Crawford County.

According to the patrol, Keaton was attacked on April 29 by another inmate, and died as a result of of the assault. The inmate who is accused of murdering the man was not identified to the media by troopers.

CCI houses 2,700 inmates and is classified as a medium security facility.
