COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two provisions introduced by Republicans in the state Senate have been removed from the state’s budget. These provisions would have made it harder for low-income Ohioans to have received SNAP benefits, opponents said.

One provision called for an asset test for benefit recipients. Individuals whose household saved $2,250 or more would have their benefits terminated.

The second provision sought by the GOP-backers would have required all benefit recipients to report to OJFS (Ohio Department of Job and Family Services) any changes in their income worth $500 or more. This would have made things difficult for individuals who worked second jobs, or side-work, democrats said.

According to state officials, during a conference committee the proposals were removed. The final state budget will be sent to Governor Mike DeWine for approval or veto.
