CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The statue of Chillicothe Civil War hero Colonel Richard Enderlin is finally repaired after being damaged in a car crash back in 2019.
Reports from then stated that the head of the statue had been broken off when it was knocked from the pedestal. The driver of the vehicle that struck the statue of Enderlin was cited at the time for failure to control.
Bill Bonner, the director of the Park and Recreation Department told the Guardian that the statue was repaired by Edgewater Stone Works, in Columbus, and Capital City Crane assisted in placing it.
Col. Enderlin was an immigrant from Germany, who was raised in Chillicothe. According to Civil War historians, Enderlin served in the United States Army from 1861 to 1865. During his time in the military, he received the Medal of Honor for heroism at the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863.
The Guardian reached out to Mayor Luke Feeney for a comment on the restoration, but have yet to hear back from him.
